Comment variables

Reuse word choices in property inspection comments.

A variable is a named set of word choices. For example, Location can offer front, rear, and left side. The first choice is the default.

Variables are shared across your company's reusable comments. Editing a variable changes those library uses. It does not rewrite findings already saved from a comment.

Create a variable

  1. Open Library → Variables.
  2. Select New variable and enter Variable name.
  3. Enter the default choice. Use Add choice for more options.
  4. Drag choices into order, then select Create variable.

You can also create a variable through Insert variable while editing a comment. Save the comment with Save changes to keep those edits.

  1. In the comment editor, place the cursor where the variable belongs.
  2. Select Add variable → Create variable.
  3. Enter its name, then Add default option.
  4. Use Add option for more choices. Select Done after entering each option.
  5. Select Save and insert, then save the comment.

The new variable stays in the comment draft until that comment is saved. Discarding the draft also discards its new variables.

A name and at least one choice are required. Each choice must contain text; new duplicate choices are rejected.

Insert or move a variable

In a comment, place the cursor, select Insert variable, and choose a variable. You can also type / to search for one.

Select Add variable, search if needed, then select a variable to insert it at the cursor. Selected text is replaced.

To place it by hand, press and hold a variable in the picker, then drag it to the blue marker in the sentence. Drag an inserted variable to move that use.

When you use the comment in a finding, choose the wording for each variable before selecting Insert. Repeated uses can have different choices.

Edit choices

Open the variable in Library → Variables, then select Edit. Change its name or choices, use Add choice, or drag choices to reorder them. Edits save when you leave the field or complete an action. Use the offered Undo to reverse the last change. Select Done to finish.

Changes made inside a comment editor stay in that draft until Save changes.

Select an inserted variable in the comment editor, or Edit variable when choosing a comment's words.
